Volunteer

Would you like to experience the Festival from behind the scenes?

It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to plan, build and run a Festival!

As a not-for-profit organisation, Wokingham Festival wouldn’t be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers, and we’re always looking for enthusiastic people to join the fun and be part of our incredible team. In return you gain free access and other perks!

We do now have enough volunteers for many of the duties, but we’re still looking for a few more during the festival itself, mostly to help out on the bar run by the Twyford Beer Festival crew. You’ll be working as part of a team, serving beers, ciders and soft drinks, and using a tablet-style till with integrated card / contactless reader that does all the hard work with the payments.

Our volunteers support us before, during and after the Festival. We’ve got jobs for all abilities and ages, whether you fancy helping in the car park, on the ticket desk, backstage, in the bar, litter picking, or a whole host of other tasks. Or maybe you just love assembling and disassembling fencing?

We’re a friendly, helpful bunch, and will never ask you to do anything beyond your capabilities.

Some of the volunteer duties that we typically need before and after the Festival include

  • Leaflet deliveries to local residents (well before the festival) (now done)

  • Setup (Thursday - heavy construction and lifting)

  • Setup (Friday - mostly physical)

  • Take down (mostly physical)

During the festival, duties can include

  • Ticket desk at the gate - sell on-the-day tickets, or check in pre-paid ticket holders. Welcome all our visitors with a smile and wristbands (can be seated when quiet, but standing / walking when busy: 2-6 people at a time)

  • Merch desk (mostly seated: 1 person at a time)

  • Bar (standing / walking - just beers, ciders and soft drinks, with a till that does all the arithmetic: 3-12 people at a time)

  • Litter picking and wheelie bin emptying (walking: 1-2 people at a time)

  • Car Park steward (occasional sitting when quiet, but mostly standing / walking: 2-4 people at a time)

  • Silent Disco steward - clearing chairs from the WMC marquee after the last artist, and then handing out and collecting headphones on Saturday and Sunday evening (can be seated after chairs are cleared: only needs 1 or 2 people for an hour or two)

  • Artist Gate steward - direct arriving artists (a mix of sitting and walking: 1 person at a time)

We ask for a minimum of 5 hours of your time in a day, and you’ll be free to make the most of the Festival for the rest of the time. For more details, please see our Volunteer FAQs sheet.
